The Three Step PRODUCTIVITY PROCESS
Values are your highest priorities, the attributes and qualities you most want to develop. Examples of values are honesty, integrity, professionalism, thriftiness, family relationships, financial independence, teamwork, service and good health.
A Mission Statement is your philosophy on how you want to live. Such statements capture what contributions you want to make during your lifetime. Examples of missions might be:
Roles represent your key relationships, areas of responsibility, and areas of contribution. Determining them will help you see that life is more than a job or a particular ambition. Examples of roles might be spouse, manager, writer, leader, volunteer, employee, family member, friend or coach.
Planning what matters most requires setting Long-Range Goals and committing to weekly planning and daily planning. The most effective goals and plans are based on your values, personal mission statement and key roles.
Long-Range Goals
Goals are dreams with deadlines. They include specific steps that link your daily actions to What Matters Most. For goals to be reached, they must be specific, measurable and retrievable. Achieving goals is easier if you break them down into smaller, more manageable pieces.
Weekly and Daily Planning
Weekly planning helps you identify and schedule up front the most important activities-before the week gets too hectic. Daily planning allows you to prioritize your daily tasks and stay focused. If you invest 20-30 minutes at the beginning of the week and 10-15 minutes each day in personal planning, you will see a measurable increase in your personal productivity.
